Gallery INA DEDERER & FRIENDS
contemporary art gallery in the heart of Zurich
Sylwia Synak was born in Gdynia, Poland, and moved to Munich in 2000, where she worked as a muralist and graphic designer before dedicating herself to abstract art. In Sylwia’s paintings time seems to stand still. This creates a rare moment of presence and tranquillity, focusing on the ‘now’: free from mental noise, free from thought, free from time, and ready to inspire an awakening. Her paintings develop from transparencies - layers of colour added with a palette knife - and live in the tension between abstract form, colouration and the reference to the objective. Exhibitions of Sylwia’s work have been staged in Munich, Berlin, Zurich and London.
Sylwia uses colour connections, and their arrangement on the canvas, to create image spaces that encourage association. With the help of spatulas, brushes and rollers in combination with painting, scratching and wiping, very individual structures and effects are created. “The colour arrangement itself does not follow an intellectual pattern - it is purely intuitive and spontaneous,” says Synak. By using innovative and experimental combinations of different techniques and materials, such as acrylic, pigment and assorted structured pastes, new forms of expression are continually created in her evocative non-representational works.
